This text is part of the Weather Preparedness & Resilience Toolbox developed by the YOUROPE Event Safety (YES) Group within YOUROPE’s 3F project (Future-Fit Festivals). It is aimed at everyone involved in planning, building, and operating open-air events. It helps festivals and other outdoor events become truly weather-ready by offering both practical and research-based resources as well as background information on weather and climate. World Meteorological Organization:  “Global Annual to Decadal Climate Update (2025–2029)” report (wmo)

The report is an official WMO report that combines predictions from several designated global climate prediction centres to assess likely global temperature and related climate conditions for 2025–2029. It is part of WMO’s regular update series used to inform policy, risk management and adaptation planning.

The report states that annually averaged global mean near‑surface temperatures for each year from 2025 to 2029 are expected to be about 1.2–1.9 °C above the 1850–1900 average. It estimates an 80% chance that at least one of the years 2025–2029 will be warmer than 2024, currently the warmest year on record.

The update notes that Arctic warming is expected to continue to be stronger than the global average, consistent with recent observed trends whereas it also emphasizes large regional differences in projected precipitation, with some regions expected to see more intense rainfall and others a higher likelihood of drought conditions.

The full PDF report can be downloaded via the WMO site, additional explanatory context is available in WMO’s accompanying news release on global climate predictions for 2025–2029, aimed at policymakers and practitioners.
