3F Summary Publication
After three years, YOUROPE’s Creative Europe-funded project “3F Future-Fit Festivals” ended in December 2024. This summary publication gives a comprehensive overview of the main activities, results and publications that the association achieved during the project period from 2022 to 2024. Discover what you can learn from outputs and acitvitites like the European Festival Reports & Surveys, the European Green Festival Roadmap 2030, the Diversity & Inclusion Toolset, the 3F Safety Report, the Festivals for Ukraine Toolkit, the 2024 Festival Fan Survey, Transatlantic Dialogue, the YOUROPE Knowledge Hub, and our 3F communication campaigns. Explore Summary3F Safety Report
The 3F Safety Report provides an in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities faced by the festival industry in the post-pandemic world, focussing on the years 2022 to 2024. Topics include operational challenges such as staff shortages, inexperienced teams, and extreme weather conditions and associated risks, as well as crowd management issues like the behaviour of a new generation of festival-goers, threats like terrorism and political activism and cyberattacks, the necessity of detailed documentation for both pre-event planning and real-time incident management. It was developed by the YOUROPE Event Safety Group (YES Group) and released in November 2024.

Since the beginning, our association has been working on projects and tools to enhance the quality of festivals on an international level. This YOUROPE Hub is a collection of knowledge, best-practice examples and tools for those interested in organizing popular music festivals. The YOUROPE Hub is initiated as a part of our 3F – Future-Fit Festivals project and will provide tools, cases, publications, etc. recommended by our working groups, the project team or the association’s management.

3F: Future-Fit Festivals
3F 2.0 is YOUROPE’s four-year (2025-2028) project, co-funded by the European Union. It deals with the resilience, responsibility, relevance and resistance of popular music festivals. 3F 2.0 is the successor of 3F (2022-2024). What does it entail? Among other activities, YOUROPE provides capacity building through a number of training sessions and will guide festivals in Europe and beyond with central publications like the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Roadmap for more diverse and accessible festivals, the 3F Extreme Weather Toolbox, which will collect and share strategies from festivals already dealing with extreme weather today, and the 3F Guide to Fair Ticketing to combat unethical ticket selling strategies.
In combination with lots of other resources, these publications will be collected online in the YOUROPE Hub, the association’s central online platform for knowledge resources. On top, YOUROPE will organize more interactive outputs like an internship program for BIPoC and the Green Navigator, a tool to help festivals sort through the many green production measures suggested in the European Green Festival Roadmap 2030.
YOUROPE will continue advocating for European music festivals. 3F features surveys to gather information on the sector in general and on the 3F focus topics in particular. The results will continue to be published in the annual European Festival Report. The achievements of European festivals are celebrated at the European Festival Awards (EFA) each year, which will be made accessible via live stream starting in 2025. Pan-European communication campaigns will be created regularly. YOUROPE experts will share their findings at the association’s European Festival Conferences (EFC) and at creative industry summits and conventions in all of Europe and beyond.

It’s a great honour to be a part of such a beautiful network of enthusiastic people like YOUROPE! I feel strongly that our members share a common goal of taking part in changing the world for the better by action and communication through our fantastic events that bring together millions of people every year.
Such an open-minded and inspirational platform like YOUROPE is essential in this change, and the key is to exchange knowledge and have a dialogue, which is exactly what’s at the heart of the association.
I was impressed by the participants’ awareness and knowledge about climate changes and challenges they bring, and the level of the discussion about this topic was higher than on some scientific conferences that I have attended! I only wish my students and colleagues could witness this.
YOUROPE is an organization where we learn from each other, share solutions to similar problems and face the future together. What I personally love is the warm atmosphere we have. YOUROPE invites all to participate – no matter how long you have worked in the festival scene or what your title is. Everyone is welcome to join the activities and working groups, share their thoughts, learn from one another, and develop the best practices in the festival field all around Europe.
In difficult times we are stronger together, and this is, without a doubt, one of the biggest achievements of YOUROPE: putting together the uniqueness and cultural relevance of about 120 music festivals all over Europe. As a proud member of the board, one can only rejoice on the level of expertise, professionalism and commitment of the association and their members – which also happen to be, on a personal level, the nicest, most creative individuals one can come across.
In the modern world, where global challenges are so complex and complicated for the festival environment (e.g. ecology, security, insurances) it is the pan-European cooperation that is essential, not the local ones. Since 1998 YOUROPE – The European Festival Association has become a powerhouse network of strong partnerships across Europe.
With YOUROPE, we’ve created an umbrella organization, that represents a diverse and inclusive multicultural music society, where we focus on exchanging ideas and experiences, discussion and workshops by sharing our knowledge and ideas. The strength of YOUROPE also lies in unity and solidarity in supporting big ideas. The association pushes for gender balance and diversity in the festival world, creates platforms for fresh talents to rise, and brings new solutions to life in the ever-changing world of live industry.
I had the pleasure and privilege to be a founding member of YOUROPE, and I am very proud to be chairman of this unique association. We started with 25 members with the goal to give the European festival industry a strong voice. Without a doubt, after 25 years, we have achieved a lot of great projects and initiatives. Also, the association has changed my cultural views thanks to the friendships with so many creative humans from all over Europe it has led to.
Being part of the association for more than twenty years as a member, project manager and General Secretary I am proud to say that the level of expertise and exchange, creativity and identification within YOUROPE is extraordinary. What has been achieved in these two-and-a-half decades is remarkable and is hardly to be found elsewhere.
