Danish festival safety guide updated
The Danish Ministry of Culture has updated its “Guidelines on safety at outdoor music events and similar events.” The original guide was published in 2003, after the accident at Roskilde Festival 2000, where nine people died in a crowd crush at a Pearl Jam concert.
The guide is written by the Danish Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Justice in cooperation with a number of organizations and government institutions related to safety and the music industry. It is aimed at professional event organizers and safety officers.
“The purpose of the guidelines is to provide organisers of large outdoor music events with a tool that can support them in their planning and help ensure that the event is conducted in a safe manner,” the guide says.
Topics include: planning for safety, risk assessment, layout of the event venue, fences and barriers, building permit processes, fire safety, pre-hospital emergency response, work environment, traffic and transport, weather conditions, installations, sound, lighting and special effects, food safety, information and communication, the public, artists, and evaluation.
In the newest version, a lot of topics have been updated, among them staff competences and stage barriers.
