‘Diversity and Equity Action Plan’ – Roskilde Festival

Roskilde Festival has been working specifically on diversity, inclusion and equity since 2016 under the title ‘Orange Together.’ In 2018, they began reporting on progress and projects of DEI themes, and in 2022 they published this action plan, covering the three following years, to ensure progress in the area.

An action plan is an outline of goals, intentions and actions that an organization plans to undertake. It is a way of having accountability, both internally and externally, as being intentional with the progress and goals you are setting.

Developing an action plan can also be a good way of shining a light on problems or issues that have not been directly dealt with before. It supports you in identifying and involving the correct people, teams and partners in figuring out where to start and how ambitious you want to be.

The target of an action plan is both internal and external. Internally, it is the organisation itself: what are we going to accomplish, and what is the timeline for that? Externally, it shows partners, potential future employees and volunteers as well as guests what to expect from you. An action plan is a great way to avoid ‘greenwashing’ and ‘social washing.’ It is a way of being transparent around your goals and what you are working towards, and then showing it by following through.

Roskilde Festival’s action plan is quite comprehensive, working with three areas: diversity, wellbeing, and behaviour. However, action plans can be as large or small as fits the organisation. This action plan can be used as inspiration and a starting point for creating an action plan for your own festival or organisation.
