Open-source Guide to Allyship

‘The Guide to Allyship’ is an open-source starter guide to help you become a more thoughtful and effective ally. The creator, designer and writer Amélie Lamont, started the guide because she heard the word “ally” thrown around a lot in the face of recent tragedies. Although many people want to be an ally, even more people are unable to fulfil the tasks that allyship requires, she writes on her website.

The guide aims at everyone as individuals, so the learnings can be used in a festival setting as well as in everyday life. Topics the guide tackles (among others) are the definition of ‘ally’, why allies are necessary, Dos and Don’ts, how to handle mistakes and how to apologize. There are no specific instructions on how to be an ally for specific groups confronted with discrimination; rather, it’s about the concept of ‘allyship’ in general and can be viewed through an intersectional lens.

Amélie states on the Website: “This Guide is a labor of love and provided as a shareable resource for you to use. Please make sure to credit back to the site if you decide to use any content here.”
