Program

Day 1, 16.10.

Get to know your workshop hosts and your fellow participants in our opening session with Katharina Weber & Mika Christoffersen. We’ll briefly introduce our “Diversity & Inclusion Toolset” that YOUROPE released this year to help live events become more diverse, equal, and inclusive. We’ll also play the game “Go / No Go”, developed by Roskilde Festivals, on boundaries and different lived experiences to get the conversation going.

This workshop addresses the responsibility of music creators in the DACH region and beyond in the field of awareness. Through concrete examples, Sarah Saem Bergmann (she/they) will demonstrate how artists and organizations can actively contribute to creating a discrimination-free environment. She will outline the necessary steps for developing a comprehensive awareness concept: from creating a Code of Conduct and support measures to targeted communication strategies. Under the guiding principle of “awareness from the inside out,” the workshop will discuss how to effectively initiate anti-discrimination efforts within organizations and foster lived values.

With Mika Christoffersen – Description to follow

With Marie Valentin & Mika Christoffersen – When people meet, different backgrounds, habits and norms meet. That also goes for the organizations we work at as well as the festivals we attend. This session focuses on the optics and skills we need in order to create inclusive spaces, deep diving into the aspect of under- and overrepresentation and micro inequities.

Day 2, 17.10.

As more festivals and venues recognize the importance of inclusive and accessible policies, there’s growing momentum to make meaningful change. Some have already found creative approaches, and there are various checklists and toolkits to guide you. While the focus has traditionally been on production, true accessibility goes far beyond logistics. We’re entering a new era: Accessibility 2.0, where the emphasis is on fostering a sense of belonging, finding innovative solutions that benefit diverse groups, and taking a holistic approach. This session will tell you all about it and will let you work on it straight away!

The goals of this session with Ronald Ligtenberg & Sandra Boertien are:

  • To expand the knowledge in European music sectors around immersion and accessibility in live music performances
  • To develop practical and low cost strategies and tools to improve accessibility at live music scenes
  • To give actions that participants can implement in their venue the day after
  • To transform the mindset around accessibility, look at it through a different angle

With Isabel Díez Monedero – Music, accessibility and festivals. Management and sensations. A trip through the accessibility and inclusion chain.

Head of secretariat and founder of Another Life, Rosa Lois Yahiya, will give a presentation on intersectionality. She will highlight why it is an important analytic tool, how it is relevant to the music industry, and what methods can be used to actively work with representation and work environment in a more nuanced way that supports positive changes for more people.

During the presentation, we will make a small interactive exercise that makes the theory tangible and puts it in relation to your own situation and workplace.

With Duduzile Mathonsi – An engaging exploration of allyship, focusing on radical tenderness as a means of genuine support for marginalized communities. We will unpack the distinctions between performative and true allyship, emphasizing the importance of mindfulness, self-reflection, and decolonization in our daily practices. Together, we’ll address the challenges and responsibilities of being effective allies, fostering deeper connections and actionable change in our environments.

As we have a limited capacity, we will confirm participation on a first-come-first-served basis.
