Description

Ypsigrock is a small yet influential boutique indie-rock festival in Sicily, Italy, founded in 1997.

This exceptional event has garnered a reputation as one of the most evocative European small festivals, serving as a focal point for European indie culture enthusiasts and establishing itself as a true tastemaker festival. It is meticulously organised by the non-profit Glenn Gould Cultural Association.

The Ypsigrock saga commenced in 1997 in Castelbuono, a small medieval hill town in Sicily’s Madonie mountains, a mere ninety-minute drive from Palermo and a short distance from the stunning Cefalù seaside. Nestled within the breathtaking valley, embraced by the splendour of the mountains, this charming corner of Sicily provides the natural backdrop for the festival.

Conceived with the ambitious mission of creating a festival inspired by the successful formula of international festivals but with a more relaxed pace and inviting spaces, Ypsigrock aims to infuse a personal touch that celebrates the beauty and uniqueness of the Madonie region.

Ypsigrock has been cheered on by media like The Independent, The Guardian, KEXP, BBC, DIY. The four-day-long festival’s 2500 cap main stage situated in the iconic castle’s square has not only seen international headliners performing in underplays (The National, Editors, Daughter, just to name a few), but also welcomed countless Italian premiers over the last 26 years (Jon Hopkins, Alt-J, AURORA, among others).

Most notably, there is a unique rule at Ypsigrock – the iconic “Ypsi once rule” – every act can perform at Ypsigrock only once in a lifetime.
