Future Festival Tools: Self-assessment
The Future Festival Tools self-assessment framework gives an overview of different levels of environmental practice at outdoor events across six key themes, giving participants a snapshot of where their festival is at on its sustainability journey. By completing this self-assessment, participants will receive an overall score for how their event is doing on environmental sustainability, as well as specific scores for each of the six areas listed below. They will also be given recommendations for next steps in each area based on their current level of performance.
This self-assessment is a starting point and will help identify further training, resources, and actions. It is aimed at organisers of festivals or events, or those responsible for an event’s production, operations, and/or implementing green initiatives. It is designed to be filled out from the perspective of a specific event. The tool is available in English and French.
The assessment is part of the Erasmus+ project FUTURE FESTIVAL TOOLS, in which GO Group, YOUROPE, Julie’s Bicycle, Green Events and other partners from all over Europe developed tools to enhance green competency in the events industry. The resources focus on the following six key areas:
- Energy
- Materials & Waste
- Food & Drink
- Water
- Travel & Transport
- Strategy
Besides the self-assessment tool, Future Festival Tools published:
- Green Festival Stories, a guide with 21 Inspirational case studies about great sustainability initiatives at festivals
- A 6-module e-learner course on sustainability at events with certificate of completion
- Resources for educators – a trainers’ handbook and teaching material
